Enough, already!

The guys on the radio likened this in their post-game to a zombie movie... it's not a bad metaphor for the game. It was ugly, and the bad guys kept on coming back after you thought them safely dead.

I do want to give some props to St. Louis. It's clear from the two games over the last week that this isn't the same team that started the year. Definitely a team that's rebuilding, stocked full of names that might not be horribly familiar to most of us, but they've definitely improved a lot. Kudos to Andy Murray - I've liked him ever since his turn as a rather wry colour commentator during the playoffs last year.

I'm a bit annoyed that we blew as many leads as we did - especially at home, I have this sense that yes, we should be able to put away a team like this, with a two goal lead in hand. I'm going to blame our coverage in the defensive zone again. It's a bit frustrating since we were well known for being good at this not that long ago.

Well... we can always look ahead. We have a phenomenal chance to put the Avs out of their misery in Denver Wednesday. Here's hoping the boys get it done.

1:45 AM Anyone know what to make of this?

  1. Horrendous game to watch. Any time it was in the Flames zone, Anyone wearing the Flaming C looked liked he was fresh from a frontal lobotomy.

  2. There is a benefit to not having to watch, I guess...

I sometimes wonder if I'm able to keep my mostly-optimistic POV as a result of getting 90% of my games over internet radio.

  3. I am absolutely shocked that Playfair states the obvious with cliches in his "blog".

  5. I don't think its actually his blog. I think the Flames blogger guy just runs quotes of what Playfair says in it...

I also think that I am slightly less motivated to be pessimistic about the whole situation by not getting to actually watch the games most of the time...

Listening on the radio, I think I miss catching some of stupid things that are done by the coaching staff, as the play-by-play guy can only say so much...

Most definitely getting Center Ice next season...

Along with Sunday Ticket, but that's neither here nor there for the rest of you. Just watch out for the Charger articles sneaking in from time to time...

  6. All you need is a friend with Centre Ice.

    Right Leanne? :)

  7. Wha? I behave myself. It's still Fan960 most nights.

I've been listening to that broadcast since I was a little kid, from the QR77 days onwards...I'm used to it.

I do like that the colour and the play by play are much more deft on the radio than is the norm for TV.

  8. Leanne, you must be a fan, I didn't even know games used to be broadcast on QR (even though their sister station in Edmonton does Oilers games.)

What to make of the 'Playfair blog'? Political campaigning.

  9. Hey Dave, where abouts are you located? ;D

  10. QR77 had the broadcast rights in the 80s, before 66CFR...if I remember right, they had them right up till '87 or '88 (my memory insists 66CFR started their broadcasts the Cup year, though it could be wrong)...it's right at the edge of stuff I can barely remember, honestly. I would have been six or seven at the time.

I was just amazed that a post like that appeared on their blog so quickly... doesn't that have to be vetted by the PR folks or something?

  11. High Park.

If my apartment wasn't so small, I'd be more than happy to throw a big Toronto-Flames-Bloggers shindig. I could probably host 3-ish other people?

4 people would work too, but cozy.

Someday maybe I'll try to arrange something. Find a Flames game in HD (like tomorrow!) and have a bunch of people over if they wanna come. Like HG and Leanne and maybe HG's boytoy and you, if you'd like to come.

  12. Did I mention I watch the games on a 42" 1080p HDTV with DD5.1 surround?

  13. Ooooo! Party at Dave's house! Sounds like fun - unfortunately tomorrow night is out for me but keep the dates coming.

And I can bring my boytoy? Which one? *winks*

  14. Yeah, tomorrow doesn't work for me either, but I'm sure we can all get together somewhere before the end of the regular season (probably at a bar on a weekend might work best)...

Cool. Who here remembers the 66CFR song though?

It's definately PR. Management must know things look pretty bad right now.

  16. Oh! The song! I used to be able to sing to it...must find on internet somewhere.

Yes, the blogosphere, Toronto chapter must unite at some point. I suggest one of the HNIC games at the end of the month which (bonus) will be in substandard HD, thanks to the mother corp....who knows a bar that can swing it?
