The Open Ice Hits Guide to this Series

This series has been fantastically dead even. It's been great. The ups have sent us soaring, the downs have been lower than low. Being nervous and twitchy from school and the stresses of playoff time, I've decided I can't wait to see how this puppy gets decided, I'm taking things into my own hands.

We have here some of the players from each team. Phaneuf? Lombardi? Roenick?

It's obvious. Phaneuf and Lombardi win this for sheer angelic looks, and of course, for posing with gold medals in their hands.

Roenick loses for looking like a doofus.

Next, let's look at the leaders of both teams.

Jarome Iginla is all business. He has his eye on the goal.

Joe Thornton is still stuck prying breakfast out of the toaster.

Flames all the way.

One of the most important (yet still unrecognized) parts of making it through the playoffs is the ability to stay loose.

Now, on one hand, we have a stolid, family-friendly, and yes, cliche-ridden, stuffy holiday party. On the other hand, we have a rookie really gettin' down. I know which party I'd rather slit my wrists rather than sit through.

This round to the Flames also. See a pattern?

That's all I have to say about today's game. We're the full deal, obviously! Now, we just have to play some hockey.

  1. i was a bit upset to see that photo of last year's worlds on here, after the dream i had.

i guess the good news is that if the flames don't win tonight, canada's lookin' good.

  2. This is the greatest post ever. I see now who I should cheer for, even though Joe Thornton does make me giggle, especially when he asks
"do these pants make my butt look big?"

I think Canada's looking pretty good anyway. Too bad Lecavalier has to have shoulder surgery, but the additions of M. St. Louis and Rick Nash that I spotted the other day will be good.

  3. WI... it's all good. Dion and Lombo have been there, done that, and got the T-shirt. They ain't goin' back.

Kirsten: Welcome to the dark side! :)

  4. Thanks. I feel like I'm doing something really bad, being an Oilers and Wild fan, but you showed me that picture of Lombo from the Worlds last year, and it made me remember how much I squeed during that tournament. I feel like you cheated somehow it worked so well. I also like Rhett Warrener.

not sure if they showed it on the telly but there was a person at the dome the other night with a sign that said "HEY JOE, THOSE PANTS DO MAKE YOUR BUTT LOOK BIG"

  6. These are the intangibles the main stream media just refuses to acknowledge.

    He won the sign contest!

  8. Kyle: Fortunately, I have no intention of being taken seriously as a bona fide media source...

Kirsten: It's ok. I like Warrener too. Just not on the ice much, please, these days...
